Journals.... Where Randomstuff basically got its start! When my husband Mike started making ink & Fountain pens, I made paper crafts as a 'go-with' his pens. I stumbled across making journals, as I was making paper crafts, using a binding machine. Journals & Pens-- a perfect combination! After a short time-- I found myself with lots & lots of leftover pages-and being the person I am, I hated to just recycle them ALL! SO-- I came up with other things to make with the discarded pages not used in the journals. To date (2017)-- pocket mirrors, coasters, keychains, collage bracelets & frames, pendants, earrings, bracelets, pill containers, magnets, banners and wreaths are all things made from book pages!
Journals come in two sizes Most all Golden Books will have 40 blank pages and most all of its original pages--and the larger books will have 50 pages and about a dozen or so of the original pages. Those are scattered among the blank pages. Occasionally, a book will have brittle pages that are not suitable--so they're filled with about 65 blank pages.
Paper is 24 lb weight for durability.
Ask about your favorite book--as they make great Baby Shower gifts, Disney ones are perfect for autograph books to take to the Disney Parks--and many have used them to journal their children's year & will buy a new one every year!
Prices start at just $10 for most Golden Books--and averages $17 for the larger--with the base price being $15 for those.
Coaster-Making-Process!! Fortunately, I have a very long table, made by my grandpa in the 1920s or 30s! I can make about 85-90 at a time if I need to!! Each coaster has a minimum of 6-7 coats of a polyurethane/marine varnish to keep them nice and durable. Each one is from a book page. Favorite hymns are very popular, as are all Disney related ones! I often do sets of four, with Peanuts and movie themes!
Book clocks make great additions to a nursery, play room or classroom! Teachers have told me, that they use them to help teach fractions AND time... by dividing up the space into equal "pie slices", even if its not a round clock. Its helped students to think a bit more--as they have to pay attention as to what vicinity the hands are in-- then divide up to get the right answer. they'll never need numbers on a clock again!
Always look for the suitcase full of coasters! And-- for you seasoned RandomStuff shoppers--- you know you can usually lift the tableskirt by the coasters and find the extras!! o)
Types of Coasters--- Disney characters, Dr. Suess, Peanuts, Hymnal pages, 80s and other childrens books like Rainbow Brite, Dick and Jane, and Richard Scarry books....there are coasters made from old sewing patterns, fun vintage advertising and vintage Christmas cards!
This Moody Blue Elvis album clock is one of my favorite stories!!! Sold at Christmas Village in Nashville, TO the daughter of the man who WROTE THE SONG!!! It was to be a Christmas gift for him. Well--- the next year, she came back to my booth to tell me about it---and how EXCITED her Daddy was to get it-- that someone would have made a CLOCK out of one of his old records!!! She said he went down to his studio and hung it up that day!!
